David Stare began his winery in 1972 with an investment of less than $150,000. He was instrumental in convincing the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms to have the region designated an appellation. He is now celebrating 20 years of fine winemaking.

Gainey Vineyard's two new wines, Recession Red and Recession White, are being marketed at $5 a bottle. The winery had excess Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot that was not of high enough quality to market under its regular label.

Columbus wines set sail
