The Magoon family purchased their wine estate in Guenoc Valley in 1963 and began growing several varieties of grapes. Fellow vintners discouraged them, but they persevered, and their 1990 Genevieve Magoon Reserve Chardonnay is excellent. Their other wines are also progressing.

Winemaker Zelma Long has supplemented her Simi Chardonnay success with a long-term campaign to upgrade the breadth and quality of the winery's Cabernets. Simi's reserve Cabernets, especially 1990-1992, are world-class.
