A list of 1998's best-tasting wine varieties and individual wines is presented. The year saw such names as Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah and Merlot hitting it big in the market. Some of the general trends in the wine industry in 1998 are also discussed.
