Dietary protein supplemntation and recovery from femoral fracture
Article Abstract:
Protein supplementation after a femoral fracture may boost healing in the elderly. Researchers measured the impact of a six-month course of 100 g/week of protein supplementation versus placebo in 82 elderly patients with femural fractures. While postoperative recovery time was similar in both groups, patients who received supplements were able to complete rehabilitation earlier. The protein group had less bones loss and higher levels of insulin-like growth factor and serum prealbumin. Information on the rate of complications and mortality was not available.

Vitamin and mineral supplements as nutritional aids to exercise performance and health
Article Abstract:
Vitamin and mineral supplementation in the context of sports are confusing at best. Compared to athletes, sedentary people generally require similar vitamins and minerals from balanced meals. Future research should focus on the dietary and supplementary habits of athletes, older people, children, the prevention of heart disease and immune dysfunction. Extremely high doses of supplements may cause serious consequences or death.
