Enrichment of food staples through plant breeding: a new strategy for fighting micronutrient malnutrition
Article Abstract:
Food staple crops could undergo plant breeding to improve their vitamin and mineral content, and this strategy could correct malnutrition around the globe. To date, breeding has focussed on improving yield productivity while ignoring the nutritional content inside the form. Soil deficiency is a worldwide problem for crops, and nutritious plants protect themselves and their human consumers from disease. Breeding mineral-dense seeds can solve these problems.

Micronutrient status in relationship to mortality in HIV-1 disease
Article Abstract:
Selenium deficiency in healthy people is rare, but studies indicate a decline in plasma selenium levels and decreased glutathione peroxidase activity in people with HIV/AIDS which can be a predictor of HIV-related mortality. Supplementation with selenium may help to increase the enzymatic defense systems of patients.
