George M. Briggs (1919-1989)

George M Briggs Jr was born in Grantsburg, WI, on Feb 21, 1919. He received his BS in agricultural chemistry at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, in 1940 and his MS in biochemistry in 1941. He was a professor of poultry nutrition at the University of Maryland. He was also the Chief of the Nutrition Unit of the National Institute of Arthritis and Metabolic Diseases from 1951-58 and was the founding department chairman of the Nutrition and Home Economics Dept at the University of California, Berkeley. He died on May 31, 1989.

Douglas Van Anden Frost (1910-1989)
Article Abstract:
Douglas Van Anden Frost pioneered the research on the nutritional significance of the trace elements arsenic and selenium. He was born on Oct 31, 1910 in Pittsburgh, PA. After graduating with a bachelors degree in chemistry in 1933, he went on to finish his master's and doctoral degrees in biochemistry in 1938 and 1940 respectively. Although he was best known for his research on arsenic and selenium, he also had notable contributions in other areas of nutrition. Frost died in 1989.

Anthony August Albanese (1908-1994)
Article Abstract:
Anthony August Albanese was born on Feb 12, 1908, in New York City. He earned his BS degree from New York University in 1930 and his PhD in Biochemistry from Columbia University in 1940. He was the Chief of the Nutritional Research Laboratory and of the Clinical Laboratory of St Luke's Convalescent Hospital. He also served as Director of Geriatric Nutrition and of the Clinical Laboratory of the Miriam Osborn Memorial Home in Rye, NY. He died on June 12, 1994, at the age of 86.
