The cloning and characterization of a novel cytochrome P450 family, CYP26, with specificity toward retinoic acid
Article Abstract:
Cloning and characterization of a new cytochrome P450 family has been undertaken in human, mouse and zebra fish tissues. The family, which has specificity toward retinoic acid, is CYP26. The enzymes may serve as a regulator of differentiation and perhaps modulate disease conditions through control of retinoid concentration and homeostasis. Cloning and characterizing the CYP26 family is an important step in retinoid biochemistry and molecular biology.

The role of vitamin A and related retinoids in immune function
Article Abstract:
The benefits of vitamin A on the immune system have been known for years. However, the discovery of retinoic acid receptors shows how vitamin A influences the immune function. Vitamin A distribution is recognized as one of the most cost-effective and successful interventions to improve health.

A gene knockout corroborates the integral function of cellular retinol-binding protein in retinoid metabolism
Article Abstract:
Cellular retinol-binding protein acts as chaperone of retinoid metabolism. Experimental data show a trend towards vitamin A deficiency in mice without this protein gene.
