The murine mutation, lethal milk, results in production of zinc-deficient milk
Article Abstract:
The synthesis and effects of zinc-deficient milk in mice with lethal milk mutation was studied using radioactive zinc measurement in various organs after intraperitoneal injection. Lethal milk, a gene mutation of chromosome 6 in mice causes death in their young because of the production of zinc-deficient milk on the lactating dams. Older mice carrying the mutant gene also showed signs of zinc deficiency but the results were inconclusive. Exogenous zinc in mutant and normal mice showed no difference in body distribution thus the chromosomal abnormality exerts its effects mainly via nutritional deficiency in the young.

Cardiac ultrastructural and electrophysiological abnormalities in postweanling copper-restricted and copper-repleted rats in the absence of hypertrophy
Article Abstract:
Postweanling copper-restricted and copper-repleted rats were studied for cardiac ultrastructural and electrophysiological abnormalities. Results show abnormalities in electrocardiograms and cardiac ultrastructure observed in weanling rats initially fed with a copper-adequate diet then followed by a copper-deficient diet. It was further shown that histopathological abnormalities at the capillary-myocyte interface was the most pertinent abnormality in copper deficiency.
