Harrison Jones, a volunteer from Wolcott, Vermont in the Civil War, died courageously during the advance on Marye's Heights during the Battle of Antietam on 1862. His contributions to the war effort were recognized in a eulogy by Captain Wheelock G. Veasy of the Vermont Third Regiment.

Judging Hannah

Hannah Duston of colonial Haverhill, MA, is the first American woman to have a statue made to honor her. She was captured by marauding Indians in Mar 1697, but after several arduous days she killed nine of them with a hatchet and later scalped them.

The granite quarries of Barre, Vermont are famous for their fine-grained and dense stones. However, they are equally infamous for the many stoneworkers who died of silicosis and the labors strikes that befell the sites between 1890 and 1933.
