American Legion National Commander Roger A. Munson says veterans' affairs should be a national priority. Changes are needed in the areas of medical care, veterans benefits, Veterans Administration (VA) policy, employment and community programs to ensure veterans of access to VA care.

Women's memorial on target
Article Abstract:
The Women in Military Service for America Memorial will be opened on Oct. 18, 1997. The memorial honors the achievements of the various women who helped defend America. An education center will also house the histories and records of 1.8 million women in the military.

President George W. Bush dedicated the National D-Day Memorial on 6 June 2001 in Bedford, VA. The ceremony saw the largest gathering of Second World War veterans since the fiftieth anniversary of the invasion in France.
