Researchers discovered that the neurotransmitter acetylcholine causes amyloid precursor protein (APP) breakdown in brain cells. The defect in acetylcholine changes APP's chemical composition which causes the development of destructive plaques like those seen in Alzheimer patients' brain cells.

A patch for smokers
Article Abstract:
A medical patch used once a day that dispenses nicotine in timed doses, has been clinically tested by Elbert D. Glover. The patch has proven to be a good supplementary aid for smoking cessation. It is also better than nicotine gum because withdrawal symptoms are avoided.

Daily patches administering nicotine in 3 dosage amounts (21-, 14- and 7-milligram) may have promise as effective anti-smoking aids. A six-week clinical trial showed that smokers given the 21-mg dose were twice as likely to quit than those given placebos.
