Several groups have organized and are actively opposing biological piracy. They have blocked decision on patents for genetic materials from developing countries, held protest marches against foreign pharmaceuticals who do not respect intellectual rights of indigenous groups and written manifestos.

One man talking: the world's better off without rare languages

The death of Carlos Westez upset professional linguists and others because with him died the Catawba language. Death of a language means the death of a way of perceiving the world. The main point of language is communication and if only one person speaks it, then it does not serve its purpose.
