Field Marshal Sir Bernard Montgomery's Operation Plunder was recalled. The operation involved the capture of the Rhine River, Adolf Hitler's last barrier against the invading allied forces. Montgomery planned the 32-division attack for several weeks before finally crossing the Rhine.

Victory in Pacific
Article Abstract:
The fighting in the islands of the Pacific during the last stages of World War II was a very bloody affair as the Japanese troops launched suicidal attacks against the allied, mainly US, forces. This state of affairs was one factor that persuaded the US to use the atomic bomb.

Bloody Iwo
Article Abstract:
The battle of Iwo Jima in 1945 was the only battle were Americans had more casualties than the Japanese. There were 5,931 marines who died and 17,372 wounded in the assault, compared to a prediction of 20,000 casualties.
