The 55 Alive/Mature Driving program for safe driving practices among the elderly is sponsored by the American Legion and the American Association of Retired People. More than 1.5 million senior drivers have attended the courses since 1989 and it has proven to be quite a success in reducing road accidents.

Welcoming warriors into the work force

South Carolina has launched the first federal-supported Military Assistance Council (MAC) aimed at veterans wishing to enter the civilian work force. The MAC, which draws its funds from existing agencies, offers occupational training as well as job placements for discharged military personnel.

The Fort Meade Defense Information School (DINFOS) in Maryland is a training ground for potential broadcasters in the military. To cover its curriculum of teaching radio and TV production, DINFOS has four TV studios and six radio stations.
