Vigilance is necessary to save the remaining elephants in Tanzania, whose numbers can be further reduced by poaching and natural hazards. Human assistance proved its value when a newborn elephant was saved after being trapped in a mudpool and later, after being left behind by its mother.

Dogs to the rescue!

The canine sense of smell is vastly superior to that of humans. This, in addition to their many other unique abilities, makes them ideal for rescue work. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police has saved many lives with the help of its trained rescue dogs.
