Agnieszka Holland's mixed Polish Catholic and Jewish ancestry has forced her to leave both Poland and France in an attempt to find artistic freedom. Her 'Europa, Europa' and 'Olivier, Olivier' has gained American attention and acclaim, and the director's next movie will be produced in the US.
