Article Abstract:
An aristocratic Italian family has been afflicted for over 200 years with a rare, fatal form of insomnia. The family's reticence about it's "curse" overcome, similarities were uncovered with Creutzfeldt-Jakob, the human variant of bovine spongiform encephalopathy. The research of Stanley Prusiner on a class of malignant proteins called "prions" was used to reveal the cause of the disease.
