Recent editions of The Forbes Four Hundred, a list of the wealthiest persons in the US, reveal interesting trends about wealth in America. One is that fortunes can dwindle quickly if not invested wisely. Another is that the old means of getting rich no longer apply, such as inheritance and oil. Finally, smart, young people such as Bill Gates can amass as much wealth as the old rich.
