It's a grand new flag amendment

The American Legion has been pushing for an amendment of the constitution to restore the right of citizens to protect the flag. The Supreme Court decided revise the law on flag burning in 1989 and considered the act protectable under the First Amendment.

The American Legion and the Citizens Flag Alliance will begin a flag-flying campaign in May 1998 in support of a constitutional amendment to prevent flag desecration. The amendment is an acknowledgment of the patriotism of Americans and veterans.
