Record producer Russell Simons has managed to launch rap groups, such as Public Enemy, Run-DMC and LL Cool J, into the mainstream of the sound recording industry. In 1984, he became a partner with Rick Rubin who had started the Def Jam label the year before. Their business relationship and success are examined.
