Lilacs: Springtime's favorite perfume

Each lilac variety has its own bloom season classified as early, mid and late and all of them easy to grow if placed in well-drained soils where they will receive at least six hours of sun a day. Some of the favorite varieties and colors of lilac include Fenelon in pink, Sensation with white rims on deep purple florets, Victor Lemoine in blue or pink, President Lincoln in wedgewood blue, Rochester in white and Ludwig Spaeth in purple.

The famous lead singer of Raven Moon, Christine Peik, is a die-hard gardener and shows that she knows the tuning of her music to read her plants, in her 5 1/2 acres garden outside Columbia, Illinois. Gardening helps her in concentrating on elements of form, balance and beauty, which she transfers into her music.

Carnival time
Article Abstract:
Celebrations across the Midwest are most enjoyable during winter when festivals are held. Two prime examples of such festivals are the venerable Saint Paul Winter Carnival in Minnesota and northwoodsy Klondike Days in Eagle River, WI, occur. A list of other carnivals are provided.
