Charles Lindbergh flew a monoplane named the Spirit of St Louis from New York to Paris, France, in 1927 to become the first aviator to fly nonstop across the Atlantic Ocean. The trip took 33 1/2 hours and made Lindbergh an international hero.

The missing hero

Raoul Wallenberg, a Swedish diplomat, became a Soviet prisoner after saving as many as 100,000 Jews from Nazi death camps. It is not known whether Wallenberg is alive or dead in 1992, but he has become a 20th-century hero.
