Mapping the territory: the Human Genome Diversity Project searches for cures, not profits
Article Abstract:
The Human Genome Diversity Project (HGDP) is different from the Human Genome Project (HGP). HGP seeks to map and sequence the human genetic code. Data from HGP is used to create products to generate profit. HGDP is an effort to write the human genetic history by collecting, preserving and analyzing DNA samples. Profit made from the samples is to be shared with the participating population.

Antonio and Hanna Damasio are using such technology as magnetic-resonance imaging and positron-emission tomography to image the brain lesions of living patients. Their work has produced a new theory about the deep structure of the human mind.
