Upping the stakes
Article Abstract:
The UK government is developing a framework for stakeholder pension schemes as part of its pension review. The government believes that individuals should invest in a secondary pension in addition to the basic state pension. However, occupational pensions are available to only 50% of employees because many employers do not wish to take responsibility for a scheme, and personal pensions are not flexible enough for all individuals. The government intends that stakeholder pension schemes will address these problems and attract firms and individuals not currently involved in pension schemes.
