Champion sled-dog racer Jeff King invited the Healy, AK, Boy Scout troop to spend a winter camp-out mushing near the Denali National Park and Preserve. The Scouts reviewed winter outdoor safety and learned to manage the sled equipment and dogs.

Some 500 Scouts rode a gondola to a camp site at Silver Mountain ski resort in Idaho. Activities at the camporee included learning survival techniques, clearing rocks from a scenic spot and a gondola rescue drill.
