One last mountain to climb
Article Abstract:
Bill House, Charles Houston and Bob Bates were part of a mountaineering team that climbed within 2,250 feet of the summit of K2 in 1938. The three men spent five months reaching the mountain and trying to find a suitable route to the summit. They share memories of the climb and other climbs.

Town on the brink
Article Abstract:
The pleasant beach town of Chatham, MA, is endangered by coastal erosion. The beach began breaking up in the winter of 1987. It has happened before, but some geologists believe it could be permanent this time. Already homes have been lost to the encroaching sea.

A dreaded occurrence of a cold New England winter is when pipes freeze. One woman describes how she held a hair dryer to her pipes in the basement for several hours before her pipes finally thawed and she could shower and make a pot of tea.
