The New York Public Library witnessed the coming into shape of some of the world's greatest and most popular inventions and discoveries. Among these are the Pan American Airlines, Soho soda, Ripley's 'Believe it or Not' cartoon strips, Xerox copier and the 'Reader's Digest' journal.

A library card can orient children to a world beyond their immediate surroundings. By going to the library and reading books, children can foster social awareness and appreciation for the arts. More importantly, they begin to understand the wonder of learning through books.
