Polanski's inferno

Movie director Roman Polanski fled the United States in 1977 to escape legal troubles resulting from his unlawful sexual relations with a 13-year-old girl. It was only one of a number of disasters in his life, which included the death of his mother in a Nazi camp and the murder of his wife Sharon Tate.

Holiday inferno
Article Abstract:
The Boston nightclub Cocoanut Grove had more than 1000 patrons when a fire of unknown origin struck the place. About 490 persons perished and only 220 were unhurt. It remains as one of the worst fires in the nation's history today.

Inferno at the Cocoanut Grove
Article Abstract:
Eyewitnesses recount the tragic fire that hit Boston's Cocoanut Grove nightclub on Nov 28, 1942, killing 492 persons. Most of the fatalities died because of the poisonous gases that enveloped the club after exit doors were jammed.
