Article Abstract:
New arterial blockages often result after balloon angioplasty has removed previous blockages. A study using anti-platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF) injections in rats demonstrated that PDGF is responsible for the thickening of the arterial wall in areas damaged by angioplasty procedures.

Research on early arterial clogging detection showed consistent success in rabbit tests at MIT's Arteriosclerosis Center in Canbridge, MA. Human trials are expected to begin in late 1992.
