Article Abstract:
Americans have defended democracies in foreign countries throughout history. The rationale for this commitment to democracy abroad is that if a totalitarian government succeeds in invading other nations, it may also turn to the US as its next target. This is why the US is still involved in conflicts in places such as the Middle East even though the Cold War has ended.
