Protecting the Legion's status
Article Abstract:
A proposal to open membership of the American Legion to non-wartime veterans was rejected by the Godwin Committee because it might endanger the Legion's tax-exempt status. The proposal is to give membership eligibility to all veterans who served honorably after Dec. 7, 1941.
