Family recipe collections tell historians much about the owners' life and times. Several historic recipes are presented, including southern ashcake, Dutch spicy cakes for Saint Nicholas, cajun fruit cake, persimmon pudding and an ornamental cream-puff pyramid.

Faneuil Hall was built in 1742 as a public meeting place, and Boston continues to use it for public gatherings following a $15 million restoration in 1991. The history of the building is related.
