Karl Deutsch: a memoir

Karl W. Deutsch was a European-born political scientist, academic and scholar who greatly impressed his colleagues with his optimism, belief in reform, erudition, internationalism and intellectual brilliance. Deutsch came to the US after participating in the anti-Nazi movement in Prague, Czechoslovakia. In time he came to see the links binding Europe with America. As a scholar he evinced a refreshing willingness to listen to new ideas.

There was no indication that there was something wrong with Sara Edwards when she suddenly collapsed in her room. Edwards was afflicted with bacterial meningococcal meningitis yet she persevered to continue her studies and graduate from medical school.
