Schumer and Clinton have tag-teamed their fellow senators in a concerted bid to boost federal resources allotted to recovery from the World Trade Center attacks. Clinton profits especially from the alliance, since her status as a newly elected senator and her affiliation with ex-President Bill Clinton damage her among Republicans.

The bravest: New York's first black fire commissioner knew how to take the heat
Article Abstract:
Lowery was appointed the first black fire commissioner of of New York City in 1966, and served until 1973. The department's personnel were mostly white, and black New Yorkers resented it. Lowery struggled to bridge both worlds.
