Statistics versus history: the destruction of census forms
Article Abstract:
The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) collects a census of everyone in Australia once every five years. Some question the confidentiality of these records because they list everyone's education, employment, schooling, income sources and level, religious affiliations, and the like. Others have suggested the destruction of census forms to protect privacy. Misuse of such information during times of war and national emergency is often cited as a reason.
