Article Abstract:
Speakers at the American Legion Washington Conference 1997 was supportive of the use of US troops in Bosnia recalling its important position in Europe. Ambassador James Pardew pointed out as a member of the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation the US was obliged to become involved in Bosnia. The conference called for the introduction of the GI Bill of Health and asked members to show their support. The new Bill would allow veterans and their families to use their health-care benefits within the VA system. The American Legion is also supporting the flag amendment.

The American Legion held a meeting of its National Executive Committee at its national headquarters in indianapolis in October 1997. At the top of the agenda was the discussion of citizens' rights to protect the American flag from desecration.
