Ted and the cricket bat

A former newspaper editor describes how he helped plan a city's anniversary celebration. One of the activities he planned was to get a picture of baseball great Ted Williams swinging a cricket bat, as the mayor from a town with the same name in England was coming to the celebration. Williams broke the borrowed bat.

A baseball enthusiast realized his dream of meeting his namesake and idol, Bobby Doerr, at the Red Sox's game in Boston, MA. He was allowed into the clubhouse and treated pleasantly by the other team members such as Dom DiMaggio, Ted Williams and and Johnny Pesky.

Winston Churchill: his other life

Winston Churchill discovered his talent for painting in his 40s, when he was removed from the admiralty and retired with his family to Hoe Farm. Churchill felt the companionship and comfort that painting offered him, especially when his mother and daughter died.
