A man recalls a time when Canada's Liberal Party was choosing a candidate for a New Brunswick riding. The two individuals were vying for the position had the same name, came from the same region and had both been schoolteachers. The candidate selected later became the Governor General of the province.

The civilian steamship Caribou was sank by a German U-boat in the early morning of Oct 14, 1942, as it crossed from North Sydney, Nova Scotia, to Newfoundland. A chronological account of the sinking and subsequent efforts to rescue survivors and sink the German submarine is presented.
