A biography is presented of New England resident Laura Shaw, who led a double life as a poor single mother with a job at New England Financial, and a millionaire horsewoman with three homes. In December 1998 it was revealed that Shaw had obtained her wealth by embezzling almost $4 million from New England Financial.

A description is presented of a fire in a warehouse in Worcester, MA, which claimed the lives of six firemen fighting to control the blaze. The actions of the firemen who dealt with the inferno are discussed.
