Capt Tim Barnby felt no alarm when the Virgin Atlantic airbus he was piloting took off for Heathrow Airport from Los Angeles, CA, on Nov 5, 1997. However, at seven miles to touchdown, when Barnby realized that he had to land the airplane with its left wheels malfunctioning, the pilot attempted a maneuver never before dared in aviation history.

Flight 961 of the Ethiopian Airlines was saved from grave disaster by the heroism of its pilot, Leul Abate. Flight 961, which was carrying 166 passengers, was hijacked by 3 Ethiopian terrorists. Abate's bravery and skill saved the lives of 46 passengers, including himself.
