The cold heart of glaciers
Article Abstract:
Ice caves, which are formed from glaciers by the melting during summer, are exceptionally beautiful. Their impermanence because of their changing with changing seasons makes them fascinating natural phenomena. Kverkfjoll ice-cave in south-east Iceland is a spectacular example because of the additional volcanic element in the area. Some of the other popular ice-caves are Mer de Glace in France and Gornergletscher and Spitzbergen in Switzerland. The best time for ice-caving is between the summer melt and the winter snow and this falls in October in the northern hemisphere.
