A woman fondly called Madaket Millie patroled the Madaket coastline for years and was the authority on wind, weather and sea conditions on Nantucket Island. She was honored with a meritorious commendation in 1975 by the Coast Guard for her years of service and made her honorary Chief Warrant Officer.
