Electronic speed controls (ESCs) allow flyers of radio-controlled model airplanes to achieve fully balanced control of the speed of the electric motor. ESCs change the average voltage applied to the electric motor by using pulse-width modulation and the momentum of the motor as it turns, resulting in motor speed control.

A personal narrative of an airline stewardess who took part in an airlift of Vietnamese orphans from Saigon in 1975 is presented. Twenty five years on she meets some of the children she helped to rescue.
