District-by-district analysis: Assembly
Article Abstract:
The 1992 elections for California'a state Assembly proved to be a disappointment for the Republicans, who once stood on the edge of controlling the 80-member body. In the end, the Republicans lost one seat, while the Democrats increased their majority from 47 to 48 seats. The factors which contributed to the Republican's defeat were the poor state of the economy, the Bush/Quayle decision to skirt California, an aggressive voter-registration drive and a protracted civil war between Republican party moderates.
