Growth in digital 2-way radio public safety usage continues

Motorola official Don Ernst says the company is the top provider of Project 25 digital radio systems to members of the Association of Public Safety Communications Officials International (APCO). He also says the two-way radio industry is experiencing 15% growth a year. The official also adds that demand is high in the entire security market, although every segment of the market has needs and price varying from those of others. He says digital for two-way radio in the public safety and private security industries is still the most recent development in the field.

Radio, transceiver teamed-up to make a secure mobile radio

Harris/RF Communications of Rochester, NY, and Motorola Land Mobile Products of Schaumburg, IL, have cooperated to produce the ASTRO Seneca, a highly secure mobile radio that is applicable in vehicles. Harris/RF Communications provided its Seneca secure communications platform and Motorola provided its ASTRO digital transceiver to the new radio. The ASTRO Seneca radio has received a $4.4-million contract from the FBI for 500 units of the radio. The ASTRO Seneca features positioning, security codes and algorithms and data and biometric collection.
