Clinton's new California strategy
Article Abstract:
Pres Clinton exhibited a great affinity to the state of California, as evidenced by the numerous Californian cabinet members and advisers as well as the many trips to the state, during his first presidential term. However, after claiming the state's 54 electoral votes for his second term, he seemed to lose the California connection. He never set foot on the state since Election Day and Californians are posted in less prominent positions. His supporters believe otherwise and contend that California's influence in the Clinton administration will never disappear.

California and Congress
Article Abstract:
Both Democrats and Republicans realize the political importance in the 1996 election of California, a state that has 32 million constituents and 54 electoral votes, and so try to influence the electorate by all means. Repeated visits to the state by President Bill Clinton reveal the state's political importance to Democrats. Republicans try to get more of a hold in California by helping the congress members from the state in the fall 1996 election. The GOP leadership hopes to influence the public mind through political, social and spending programs.
