First "Management Excellence" Citation Awarded to Edwin Meese III
Article Abstract:
Edwin Meese III was awarded a trophy for his excellence in government management and administration. This was the first government executive citation given out, but will now be an annual award. The criteria for the award were making a major contribution to long-term improvements in the government and pursuing government goals without caring about self reward. The highlights of Meese's career which made him a recipient of this award are presented.

Defense Logistics Agency: The Pentagon "Sears- Roebuck" that Nobody Notices Much
Article Abstract:
The work of the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) consists of defense supply support as well as logistics services. Improvements planned in the defense spare parts field are presented. The DLA has implemented a management by objectives program to combat fraud, waste and abuse. The administration of its management program is presented.

Gerald F. Carmen, administrator of General Services Administration (GSA), is leaving his position. During his three years as administrator he has directed the agency toward accomplishing the objectives for which it was established.
