Homeland security and natural disasters: Are states up to the financial demands?
Article Abstract:
The occurrence, prevention and consequences of human disasters and natural calamities are known and the capability of the state governments to meet the calamities without compromising its role in providing education, transportation and public safety is assessed. It is concluded that the states especially large states need to enhance their financial capability to meet the homeland security and disaster-related matters timely and efficiently.

The graying of federal financial management
Article Abstract:
The situation when the government's financial managers retire and there may not be enough younger workers to meet current needs and build for the future is analysed. There are several actions suggested to take care of this situation, which should be considered by the financial management (FM) community.

Head of federal competitive sourcing initiative departs
Article Abstract:
Angela Styles acknowledged that competitive sourcing was at a "critical junction", when she departed as federal procurement administrator to go back to her law firm. She was the public face for an initiative that had been criticized by federal employee unions and some members of Congress.
