In electronic age even keys, locks are going high-tech

The advent of the electronic age is expected to have an impact on the products offered by lock manufacturers. While the conventional lock and key will continue to be relevant for quite some time, the industry is expected to see the emergence of so-called hybrid locks that functions as both an electronic and a hardware key. Some of the now-available hybrid products include the Solitaire Plus from Ilco-Unican and SiteLine from Medeco High Security Locks.

Innovative creations make locks high security devices

The arrival of the new millennium has also brought innovations to access control systems. Some of the latest offerings in door locks involved doing away with the key altogether. This include the Omnilock OM2000 stand-alone access control system from OSI Security Devices of Chula Vista, CA. On the other hand, Master Lock Co has created its Titanium Series padlocks that the company claims to be virtually undefeatable.

Easy re-key helps US West maintain security
Article Abstract:
InstaKey gaa introduced its InstaKey security system that allows users to rekey their own locks. The InstaKey system works by using a "change key" to break off a wafer in the lock. This renders all previous keys in that particualar series inoperable. The system also provides key control and tracking software. Telecom company US West uses the InstaKey system in two and a half of the 14 states they are located in.
