Paradoxes of the competition state: the dynamics of political globalization
Article Abstract:
Increased economic globalization would suggest that national governments would be becoming less relevant, but greater economic integration has led to the rise of competition states that play an active role economic regulation intended to promote competitiveness. Despite economic globalism, many states are becoming more fractured, often based on religious or tribal differences. The adaptation of states to serve global economic imperatives may appear productive, but the transition from welfare state to competition state is undermining institutional and social sources of legitimacy.

Paradoxes and opportunism: the Danish election of March 1998
Article Abstract:
The results of the Mar 1998 election in Denmark were surprising for the small margin of the ruling coalition's victory. The issue of immigrants, who only comprise 4.5% of the population, figured prominently in the media during the election. The Danish political system is flexible in its range of parties, but rigid in the way coalitions are committed to policy positions of their small parties.
